[Printed in Czechoslavakia.] VG++.No owner inscrptn,and an absence of publisher's printed price to stiff card covers.Bright,crisp,glossy,colour pictorial artwork by Vjotech Kubasta,illustrated paper-covered stiff card covers with multi-coloured capitalised part title (TIP + TOP TAP) and black-lettered remainder (Go Flying) and black-lettered illustrator's facsimile signature to front lower right-hand corner,a pale blue background with white clouds illustrated fabric blind-spine; with inevitable shelf-wear to lower edges and corners with minimal reciprocal colour paper loss due to chipping and rubbing over the period of time.Front cover with the boys TIP and TOP descending in parachutes and the dog TAP hanging by his teeth to a floating umbrella's handle,rear cover with the boys sat in the seats of a plane's cockpit and illustrator's black-lettered initialled facsimile signature within a panel on the controls in the cockpit.Contents bright,tight and clean,all pop-ups complete and in situ and working - though on the 5th pop-up (the jets) the background jet,whilst still attached by its folding tab and in situ,appears to have the original glued portion of its wing becoming unattached from its original position. Also the last pop-up has a small sellotape repair to the rear of a tear to a fold in that pop-up.UK,slim,square [approx. 10" x 10"] Qrto HB,no dw/dj,as issued,colour illustrated 1st edn,5 double-pages excluding both pastedowns which in turn,become parts of the first and last of the 6 pop-ups.Both the first and last pop-ups with a single working action tab,the third pop-up with an interactive,removeable and replaceable glider,fourth pop-up with manually operating rotating helicopter blades.The whole book appears to be made from a single concertina-folded piece. Visually the exterior appearance is acceptable, and even internally,the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of it’s age and nature, i.e. a child's ephemeral pop-up book.The exterior faults described prevents a slightly higher grading.Despite them,it really is still an exceptional copy for its working pop-ups, cleanliness and brightness. Vojtech Kubašta (b. 7th Oct,1914 - d. 1992) was a Czech architect,graphic artist,children’s book illustrator and master of the pop-up book. In the 1950s-1960s,Vojtech Kubašta,an Austrian-born paper engineer and illustrator working in Czechoslovakia,created a series of pop-up adventure and fantasy stories combining bold folk art style imagery,distinctive colours,and innovative cut and folded paper styles. Combining his artistic and architectural talents in the creation of the spatial,pop-up book,he not only draw them all,but he was also the author of the solution to the three-dimensional parts.He produced nearly a hundred pop-up books from 1955 to 1965,and makers of pop-up books today still use Kubašta's structures and the principles he invented and used in his instantly recognisable and unique works. TIP and TOP and their dog Tap experience various modes of air travel/flight via hot-air balloon,a bi-plane,an interactive,removable glider,a helicopter,jet fighters,and finally a visit to an airfield's control tower. British children knew him as the author of a series of pop-up books featuring Tip and Top and occasionally their dog Tap,two boys who put together a car from scratch (“Tip and Top Build a Motorcar”) and traveled to outer space (“Tip and Top on the Moon”),and this flying title is one from that series.
